HARRISBURG – The House Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter), will host a hearing on Thursday to highlight the vital role law enforcement plays in protecting citizens and communities.
“Our Commonwealth is home to so many outstanding law enforcement officers who are 100% committed to fulfilling their oaths to ‘protect and serve’ the public,” Causer said. “Day in and day out, they put their lives on the line to keep the peace, prevent crime, protect property and save lives.”
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin), who earlier this year helped guide House passage of two new laws to help police-community relationships, will co-chair the hearing.
“For our police to succeed in their mission, they must be highly trained, professional, respectful, and supported by the communities they serve,” Kauffman said. “I’m proud of the laws we passed earlier this year that will further enhance the quality of officers working in the Commonwealth and help repair the strained relationships we are seeing in some of our communities. I believe this hearing will help us build on that progress.”
The hearing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in the House Majority Caucus Room of the state Capitol. Members will hear testimony from representatives of local police departments, PA Fraternal Order of Police, Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association and Pennsylvania State Troopers Association.
